Happy Easter!
Why do we celebrate Easter? For me it has nothing to do with bunnies, eggs, or candy. It is all about Jesus dying for my / our sins and rising on the third day. I struggle every day with sin, my choices, and how to live my life.
Today I thought of all the things in my life that I take for granted, don’t get around to, and should spend more time on.
My faith. What is a believer without action, or action without faith? (I know this is a bible passage, but have no idea which one.) I seem to live my life on one side or the other of that passage. I either have all the faith in the world and no action to back it up, or my actions don’t build up my faith, but rather rely on my own abilities.
My family. I spend so much time trying to provide for them, I don’t really take care of them. I have been this way my entire adult life. As much as I try to change it, so much stays the same.
Jesus lived his life to serve our Lord. In his selfless service, he cared for family, friends and strangers, asking for nothing but love for our Father in return. He died a horribly brutal death for our sake and loves us all despite our best efforts to distance our selves.
When I truly spend time in prayer he reminds me of the good that I can do in his name and the plans he has for me.
Our purpose in life is to share his love, words, and reality with those that do not know him. I know that in my own bumbling way, I help to do this in a small fashion.
So, as you eat your feast, peel another egg, and say, “no more” to one more jelly bean, try to remember what this day is really about and what your part is in it.
I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends this afternoon. I hope to spend many moments during this Easter season in reflection and prayer.
Bringing my faith and actions closer together.
In the name of our Lord, who is risen today. Alleluia – He is risen indeed!
